Salmon Crested or Moluccan Cockatoo is found in Indonesia on the island of Seram and adjacent island Ambon. They also eat roots, rhizomes, nuts, berries, flowers, corms, blossoms and insect larvae. In Australia they are seen eating grass seeds, herbs, sprouting wheat, maize and bagged grain and weeds such as cotton thistle. Galerita Cockatoo or Greater Sulpher-Crested is found in Australia and parts of Indonesia and New Guinea. Other foods are figs, pine cone nuts, eucalyptus seeds, seeds of bitter melons, nuts, roots and some insect larvae. They mainly feed on grass seeds and grains and seem very fond of paddy melon seeds. These birds feed both on the ground and in trees. Major Mitchell's Cockatoo are usually found in small groups, pairs or up to 50 birds. In the wild these guys enjoy Mitchell grass, seeds and paddy melons, and also fruits, nuts, berries, flowers, roots, corms, buds, shoots, blossoms, larvae and insects. Like most cockatoos they feed in the morning and afternoons and roost quietly during the heat of the day while stripping branches, allopreening and resting. Little Corella's or Bare-eyed Cockatoos are found in Australia and New Guinea. It would be optimal to sprout the mix, instead of offering it dry. I'm going to talk about the white Cockatoo group which requires a low fat diet of around 5%-8% fat and include the galah cockatoo which does better with a diet a bit lower, around 4% or less total fat. Some are ground feeders, and others are mostly canopy feeders. Some live in rain forests where humidity is high, temperatures are more constant while others come from deserts where air is dry and temperatures can vary from freezing to extremely hot.
